Synopsis: The 2022 film is a fresh story with entirely new characters that doesn’t even briefly reference the psychosexual melodrama that everyone forgets underpinning both Barker’s original 1987 film and the novella it was based on, The Hellbound Heart, which was written by Barker. The original tells the tale of a small family, some of whom are decent and “normal,” like an unaware father and his worried thirty daughters, while others have already started down the primrose path, like the father’s wife and his brother, who are constantly looking for the forbidden pleasure of adultery.
