Synopsis: A religious mystery called The Wonder is set in the Irish Midlands around the year 1862. The first shot of the movie is so shockingly surprising that viewers could worry that the projector has chosen the incorrect file. We begin in a modern soundstage, not on the gloomy moors of a nation still suffering from the Great Famine that had starved it to death some 13 years ago. Instead, this is the kind of facility where the sets for a period drama like this one might be kept. It resembles a production company logo more than it does the first scene from a movie.
